Instructions for Mighty MIG Turbo Welding

The Mighty MIG Turbo welder is a CO2-mixed-with-argon-gassed welder that has a better duty cycle and wire-speed range than the previous welders. Unlike other welders, the range now allows for working with thicker or thinner materials. The speed of the wire exposure is set on the front of the machine next to the power switch and the amperage switch. Another advantage of using the Turbo welder is the better air-cooling system, which allows for faster, longer welding.

      Set the CO2 cylinder into the back of the welder, inside the red straps. Ensure the gas regulator is tightly shut. If you hear the sound of escaping gas, turn the regulator counter-clockwise until the sound stops.

      Connect the tube collett, the metal end of the tube, from the welder box to the collett, the metal spigot on the top of the cylinder, on the CO2 cylinder.

      Open the side of the welder by pulling on the notch on the right edge of the door. Insert the wire reel into the reel spindle. Pull out the reel spindle and place the reel on the post. Reattach the spindle over the reel and turn until it clicks. Run the wire from the reel into the wire feed by unscrewing the feed-pressure knob and tightening it after the wire has been fed through.

      Hold the torch out so the line, the tubing connecting the torch to the welder, is as straight as possible. Open the collett, the metal cylinder on the end of the torch.

      Put on leather gloves, an apron and the welding mask.

      Flip the on/off switch on the front of the welder to the "on" position. Turn the regulator a half-turn, to read "21/min." Allow gas to fill the line. Turn the regulator a full turn, to read "41/min." These readings are markings on the regulator.

      Turn the wire speed knob to 5. The wire will begin to feed through the line. Turn the machine off when the wire has stuck 1/2-inch out the end of the torch.

      Cut the wire to 3/8-inch, using wire cutters.

      Clamp the metal pieces to the work table using copper ground clamps.

      Turn on the welder. Set the amperage to "min" or "max," depending on the thickness of your metal pieces. The thicker the piece, the more need for setting the machine on the maximum setting.

      Weld the two pieces together by setting the wire at the end of the torch near the touching edges of the metal pieces. The CO2 mixed with argon burns with the electricity running through the wire, which melts the metal. The air cooler sets the weld as the torch passes along the seam.
