Materials and Tools Needed:
- PVC saddle tee
- PVC pipe (same diameter as existing pipe)
- PVC cement
- Measuring tape
- Hacksaw
- Sandpaper
- Pencil
Instructions:
1. Measure and Cut the Existing PVC Pipe:
- Determine the location where you want to add the branch line and mark it on the existing PVC pipe.
- Use a hacksaw to carefully cut the pipe perpendicularly at the marked location. Ensure that the cut is clean and straight.
2. Sand the Pipe Ends:
- Lightly sand the cut ends of the existing PVC pipe to remove any burrs or unevenness. This will help create a better seal when attaching the saddle tee.
3. Apply PVC Cement to the Saddle Tee:
- Apply a thin layer of PVC cement to the bottom surface of the saddle tee, ensuring that it covers the entire area that will come into contact with the existing pipe.
4. Attach the Saddle Tee:
- Position the saddle tee over the cut section of the existing PVC pipe, ensuring that the outlet of the tee is pointing in the desired direction.
- Press the saddle tee firmly against the pipe, making sure that the PVC cement spreads evenly and creates a good seal. Hold it in place for a few seconds to allow the cement to set.
5. Measure and Cut the Branch Pipe:
- Measure and cut a piece of PVC pipe to the desired length for your branch line. Make sure that the cut is square and clean.
6. Apply PVC Cement to the Branch Pipe:
- Apply a thin layer of PVC cement to one end of the branch pipe, covering the entire surface that will go inside the saddle tee.
7. Insert the Branch Pipe:
- Insert the branch pipe into the saddle tee, pushing it in firmly until it bottoms out. Make sure that the PVC cement spreads evenly and that the pipe is securely connected.
8. Allow the Cement to Dry:
- Allow the PVC cement to dry and cure for the recommended time indicated on the product packaging. This typically takes a few minutes to several hours, depending on the type of cement used.
9. Test the Connection:
- Once the cement has cured, turn on the water supply and check for any leaks. If you find any leaks, reapply PVC cement and make sure the connections are tight.
Additional Tips:
- Use a PVC primer before applying the cement for a stronger bond.
- If the PVC pipe is dirty or greasy, clean it thoroughly with a degreaser before applying the cement.
- Work in a well-ventilated area and avoid inhaling the fumes from PVC cement.
- Always follow the safety instructions and guidelines provided on the PVC cement packaging.
