Materials:
- Stair runner
- Carpet pad
- Carpet tape
Instructions:
1. Measure your stairs. You need to know the total length and width of your stairs, as well as the measurements of each step (rise and run) to determine how much carpet runner and pad you need.
2. Cut your carpet runner and carpet pad. You can do this yourself with a carpet knife and scissors. Be sure to add 1 inch of extra length and width to your measurements for seam allowances.
3. Install the carpet pad. Start at the top of the stairs, and roll out the pad along the length of the stair runner.
4. Install the carpet runner. Fold the underpad around the seam allowance and secure with carpet tacks into the riser of the nose. Starting at the top of the stairs, center the carpet runner over the pad and staple in place. Use a rubber mallet to make sure the carpet is tight.
5. Trim the carpet runner. Use a carpet knife to trim any excess carpet around the edges of the stairs and the stairwell.
6. Secure the carpet runner. Use carpet tacks to secure the carpet runner around the edges of the stairs and the stairwell.
7. Finish the seam. Use carpet tape to finish the seam where the two edges of the carpet meet.
8. Enjoy your new stair runner!
