How to Build an Eight-Sided Birdhouse

Building an eight-sided birdhouse is a fun and rewarding DIY project that provides shelter for feathered friends in your garden. Here are the steps to help you create your own eight-sided birdhouse:

Materials Needed:

- 1x6 pine wood boards (8 pieces, each 8 inches long)

- 1x2 pine wood boards (4 pieces, each 8 inches long)

- Wood screws (1 inch)

- Sandpaper

- Wood stain or paint (optional)

- Drill

- Saw

- Measuring tape

- Pencil

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Wood:

- Cut the 1x6 pine wood boards into eight equal pieces, each measuring 8 inches long.

- Cut the 1x2 pine wood boards into four equal pieces, each measuring 8 inches long.

- Sand all the pieces to smooth out any rough edges.

2. Assemble the Frame:

- Lay two 8-inch 1x6 boards parallel to each other, about 1 inch apart.

- Place one of the 8-inch 1x2 boards perpendicular to the 1x6 boards, connecting them at one end.

- Fasten the 1x2 board to the 1x6 boards using wood screws. Repeat this step for the other 1x2 boards, creating a square frame.

3. Add the Sides:

- Take another 8-inch 1x6 board and place it on top of the frame, aligning it with the 1x2 boards.

- Fasten the 1x6 board to the frame using wood screws. Repeat this step for the remaining three 1x6 boards, creating an eight-sided structure.

4. Create the Roof:

- Cut two pieces of 1x6 wood to a length that matches the width of the birdhouse.

- Position these boards on top of the birdhouse, forming a slanted roof.

- Fasten the roof pieces to the birdhouse using wood screws.

5. Add a Base:

- Cut a 1x6 board to a size that fits the inside of the birdhouse as the floor.

- Insert the base into the birdhouse and fasten it to the sides with wood screws.

6. Make an Entrance Hole:

- Choose one side of the birdhouse and mark a 1.5-inch diameter circle for the entrance hole.

- Use a saw or drill to cut out the entrance hole.

7. Add Finishing Touches:

- Sand the birdhouse to smooth out any rough spots and remove any splinters.

- Apply wood stain or paint to the birdhouse for added protection and decoration (optional).

- Allow the finish to dry completely before hanging the birdhouse.

8. Hang Your Birdhouse:

- Choose a suitable location in your garden or outdoor area for hanging the birdhouse.

- Screw an eye hook into the top center of the roof.

- Hang the birdhouse using a sturdy wire or rope.

Your eight-sided birdhouse is now ready to provide a cozy shelter for feathered visitors in your garden! Enjoy watching your feathered friends make use of this inviting birdhouse.
