How to Water Sedum Burritos

Sedum burrito is a succulent plant better known as the donkey tail plant or baby burros tail. It grows in vertical columns that can eventually droop over as they elongate. The columns display small round bumps from the top to bottom, which are silver or yellow in color. As a succulent, the plant is composed mostly of water. However, they are similar to cactus plants in that they do not require much soil moisture to thrive.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a stopper in a sink or a tub and set the pot containing the Sedum burrito plants into it. Adjust the water knob to lukewarm and turn the faucet on. Allow the water to fill the sink until it is at least 1 inch up the bottom of the plant pot.

    • 2

Wait for two to five minutes to allow the soil in the pot to soak up the water in the sink. When the soil is adequately watered, the top of it will feel moist.

    • 3

Pull the stopper out of the sink and let all of the water drain out. Leave the Sedum pot in the sink for another five minutes to allow the excess water to drain out of the soil.

    • 4

Pick up the pot and wipe the bottom with a paper towel to dry it off. Place it on a shallow dish to catch any additional water. Return the Sedum burrito plant to its normal growing location.

    • 5

Wait one to two weeks to allow the soil mixture in the Sedum burrito pot to dry out almost entirely.

    • 6

Insert a dull knife, such as a butter knife, into the soil along the side of the pot away from the rots. Dig down to the bottom of the pot and then insert your finger into the soil to check for dampness. If the soil is completely dry in the bottom of the pot, repeat the watering process.
