# How to Cut English Boxwood Bushes
English boxwood is a small ornamental shrub. It produces thick bunches of leaves and it has the advantage of being dense without being tall. If you have an English boxwood on your property, take the time to cut it correctly. Correct cutting, more commonly known as pruning, allows your plant to stay healthy while looking very tidy.

Prune the boxwood during the very early spring months. This is when the plant is dormant and it gives the shrub a full growing season to recover.

Part the English boxwood's branches with your hands. You can see where the leaf cover gives way to an opening inside, where there are no leaves closer to the central stem. You will only make a cut that is as deep as the layer of green growth.

Cut away branches that cross or any branches that seem less healthy than the others using a pair of pruning shears. Look for brown leaves or dry twigs.

Remove the cut branches and throw them away to prevent infection or insect infestation.
