Home Remedy for Fertilizing Trees

Trees require adequate and regular fertilization to thrive. You can fertilize trees with organic and inorganic fertilizers. Homemade fertilizers may be also be used to supply key nutrients to trees. Well-fertilized trees have vigorous growth and are less prone to environmental stresses such as drought.
  1. Type

    • Compost tea is an organic home remedy for fertilizing all types of plants, including trees and ornamental plants, says Elaine Ingham in "Growing Edge International."

    Method

    • To make compost tea, fill a bucket one-third full of finished compost with water to the top. Mix well, and let it rest for three or four days, stirring occasionally. Using cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer, strain the fluid, or tea, into another container. To make the fertilizer, mix one part tea with 10 parts water.

    Benefits

    • Compost tea is a good source of micronutrients and is especially helpful for trees and plants suffering from drought stress or pest infestations. Using the tea to spray foliage helps reduce chances of fungal leaf spot infections.

    Use Recommendations

    • For best results, use the tea within three weeks of processing, says Elizabeth Stell in "Secrets to Great Soil." For plants with foliage disorders, remove all affected leaves prior to using tea. Spray the mixture on leaves either on a cloudy day or during early morning. This home remedy is safe for plants, so you can use it as often as possible.
