How to Store Leftover Fresh Parsley

Whether purchased at the store or grown at home, fresh parsley needs to be stored properly to ensure quality, and keep it fresh for as long as possible. There are two basic methods of storing fresh parsley that will keep it fresh for up to two weeks. The two methods work similarly - the stems are kept moist, similar to if the herbs were still being grown. This keeps the parsley from wilting and discoloring.

Instructions

  1. Paper Towel Method

    • 1

Rinse the parsley thoroughly with cold water to remove any dirt or debris.

    • 2

Stack a few paper towels and run them under cold water. Squeeze out water until the paper towel is damp but not dripping.

    • 3

Wrap the paper towel around the stems of the parsley, being careful not to crush the leaves.

    • 4

Place the wrapped parsley into a plastic baggy and store in the refrigerator.

    Cup Method

    • 5

Rinse the parsley thoroughly with cold water to remove any dirt or debris.

    • 6

Trim 1/2 inch off the bottom of the parsley stems. This will allow them to better absorb water.

    • 7

Place the parsley stem-first into a cup of cold water.

    • 8

Cover the top of the parsley with a loose fitting plastic bag and place it in the refrigerator.
