Trailing Rosemary and Varieties

Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) is a native Mediterranean herb from the Lamiaceae family that develops on a dense woody perennial shrub.This evergreen comes in upright, semi-upright and low growing, prostrate trailing formations. Trailing rosemary is a fragrant plant with grayish-green to green, strong-tasting leaves used as both fresh and dried ingredients in numerous culinary dishes. A low-maintenance plant that grows quickly, trailing rosemary is available in several cultivars for home and commercial garden use.
  1. Light Blue Flowers

    • Rosmarinus officinalis "Huntington Carpet" is a variety of trailing rosemary with a flat, spreading form. This dense perennial has a matlike configuration with thin, short, spiky evergreen leaves that resemble pine needles. Huntington carpet blossoms with light blue flowers during the summer in northern climates and year round in warm environments. "Santa Barbara" (Rosmarinus officinalis lavandulaceous) is a 2-foot-tall vigorous trailing rosemary plant. This perennial has light blue flowers in the summer with grayish-green evergreen leaves.     Medium Blue Flowers

    • Rosmarinus officinalis "Severn Sea" is a trailing rosemary cultivar with a low, spreading habit and trailing stems. This Lamiaceae family plant is one of the most cold tolerant rosemary plants, according to the University of Idaho. Severn sea has woody arching branches with grayish-green evergreen needlelike leaves and medium sky blue flowers. The Prostrate cultivar of Rosmarinus officinalis is a trailing rosemary plant with long, narrow stems. During the summer, bright medium blue flowers flourish along the branches with grayish-green needlelike leaves. Prostrate is an ornamental herb that grows to heights of 10 inches.

    Dark Blue Flowers

    • The Collingwood Ingram cultivar has pine-scented evergreen leaves that have a grayish-green tone and a glossy shine. The deep blue blossoms flower in the summer, and this perennial enjoys full sun to light shade and well-draining, slightly alkaline sandy to chalky soils. Corsican blue blooms with thin, narrow violet-blue flowers during the summer.
