How Far Apart Should Grapevines Be Planted?

Grapevines should be planted 6 to 10 feet apart, depending on the variety and training system being used.

Spacing for different grape varieties:

- American grapes: 6-8 feet apart

- European grapes: 8-10 feet apart

- Muscadine grapes: 10-12 feet apart

Spacing for different training systems:

- Vines trained on a trellis: 6-8 feet apart

- Vines trained on a pergola: 8-10 feet apart

- Vines trained as a fan: 10-12 feet apart

When planting grapevines, it is also important to consider the following:

- The soil conditions: Grapevines prefer well-drained soil with a pH between 6.0 and 6.5.

- The climate: Grapevines need full sun and a long growing season (at least 180 frost-free days).

- The availability of water: Grapevines need regular watering, especially during the growing season.

By following these guidelines, you can help ensure that your grapevines will grow and thrive.
