Can You Plant Blueberries Near Grapes?

Blueberries and grapes are fruit plants that grow, bloom and fruit in summer, then grow dormant during winter. These are both relatively large plants, so companion planting requires more space than some people have.
  1. Blueberries

    • Blueberries grow on bushes that require at least 3 feet of space in all directions. These plants need full sun for eight hours a day with rich, highly acidic soil.

    Grapes

    • Grapes grow on long vines that can reach up to 10 feet in length, in both directions. Grapevines require plantings at 9 feet, with 11 to 12 feet between rows. Like blueberries, grapes require deep, rich soil and excellent drainage, with eight hours of full sun.

    Companion Planting

    • Because grapevines grow taller than blueberries, they will block out a blueberry bush's sunlight if they grow too closely. To plant both grapes and blueberries, gardeners must leave at least 10 feet of space between the last row of grapevines and the first row of blueberries.
