How to Unshrink Cotton Clothes

1. Gather Supplies:

- Unshrunk cotton garment

- Large pot or sink

- Mild detergent

- Hair conditioner or fabric softener

- Clean, dry towel

2. Prepare lukewarm water:

- Fill the large pot or sink with lukewarm water (around 100-110°F/38-43°C).

3. Add Detergent:

- Add a small amount of mild detergent to the water and mix well.

4. Soak the Cotton Garment:

- Place the cotton garment in the soapy water and let it soak for about 30 minutes.

5. Rinse Thoroughly:

- Remove the garment from the soapy water and rinse it thoroughly with clean water.

6. Add Conditioner/Softener:

- Fill the pot/sink again with lukewarm water and add a small amount of hair conditioner or fabric softener.

- Stir the water to evenly distribute the conditioner.

7. Second Soak:

- Place the cotton garment in this conditioner water and let it soak for another 15-20 minutes.

8. Drain and Gently Squeeze:

- After the conditioner soak, drain the water and gently squeeze the excess water out of the garment without wringing or twisting it.

9. Dry it Correctly:

- Lay the cotton garment flat on a clean, dry towel.

- Gently stretch the garment to its original size and shape.

10. Avoid Direct Heat:

- Let the garment air dry at room temperature.

- Avoid using a dryer, as high heat can cause further shrinkage.

11. Ironing (Optional):

- Once dry, you may iron the garment on a low heat setting to restore smoothness and sharpness if needed.

Remember, the success of unshrinking cotton garments depends on the type and extent of shrinkage. Some fabrics may not return to their original size, but this method often yields favorable results.
