DIY: Dry Weed & Feed

A healthy green lawn around a home can add visual appeal and enjoyment. Maintaining a healthy green lawn requires providing essential nutrients to the soil and grass as well as controlling weeds that can damage the grass. Apply fertilizer and weed control in one step with the use of a dry granule weed and feed lawn product. Using a dry weed and feed product can help reduce the amount of work required to maintain a lawn.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the approximate square footage of the lawn and purchase enough weed and feed to sufficiently cover the lawn. Multiply the length in feet times width in feet to get an approximate square footage.

    • 2

Choose a time to apply the dry weed and feed when weeds have started to actively grow. Select an application time when the grass is wet. Use a garden hose to lightly wet the grass if necessary.

    • 3

Position a spreader in a corner of the yard or along a border such as a drive or walk.

    • 4

Pour dry granule weed and feed into the spreader. Adjust the spreader control based on the manufacturer's recommendations.

    • 5

Push the spreader by walking at a slow to medium speed. Maintain a steady pace while walking. Work the spreader across the yard in back and forth pattern to achieve good coverage.
