How to Hook Up a Hayward 710 Multiport to a Filter

The Hayward SP0710 Vari-Flow Multiport is a six-position control valve for swimming-pool filters. The SP0710 fits all Hayward side-mount filters with 1 and 1/2-inch fittings. Constructed with a noncorrosive ABS body and a nylon valve disk, functions of the Vari-Flow Multiport are controlled by a single lever-action handle and include Filter, Backwash, Rinse, Waste, Closed and Recirculate. The valve may be installed on new filters or easily retrofitted on existing installations. Plumbing from the pool-circulation pump to the valve varies depending upon location of the pump..

Instructions

    • 1

Shut off valves controlling water flow to and from the pool.

    • 2

Orient the filter so the valve handle and all plumbing connections are easily accessible for routine maintenance.

    • 3

Place O-rings over the ends of the inlet and outlet tubes on the valve assembly.

    • 4

Line up the inlet and outlet tubes on the valve with the correct fittings on the side of the filter. Filter inlet is the upper fitting on the filter tank; filter outlet is the lower fitting. Press the valve tubes into the filter fittings.

    • 5

Tighten the two bulkhead locknuts on the valve tubes by hand to secure the connection.

    • 6

Install the pool return pipe and the waste pipe into the correct lower fittings on each side of the Multiport valve.

    • 7

Plumb the pool-circulation-pump line to the elbow fitting on the upper-left side of the valve.

    • 8

Open all valves to and from the pool.

    • 9

Turn the Multiport valve control lever to the "Backwash" setting.

    • 10

Start the pump and run for at least two minutes. Turn the pump off and move the Multiport valve control lever to the "Rinse" setting. Restart the pump for another 1/2 minute to 1 minute or until water in the filter sight glass is clear. Turn the pump off and move the Multiport valve control lever to the "Filter" setting.

    • 11

Check for leaks at all valve connections.
