How to Replace the Skimmer on the Reflection in an Above-Ground Pool

Without an operating skimmer in your above-ground pool, leaves, sticks, bugs and other debris will be left to float on the surface. Generally, a surface pool skimmer comes in two parts: the holding cup and the floating basket. After a few years of use, you may notice your skimmer becoming full of algae and discolored. You can replace a surface skimmer in less than an hour without draining any water out of the pool.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull the old skimmer's tube off the adapter on the side of the pool. Lift the floating basket out of the holding cup and set it aside. Pull the skimmer's handle up and off the pool's edge and set it aside.

Connect the two parts that make up the surface skimmer's handle by pushing them together until they click. Attach the handle's straight portion to the holding cup by loosening the holding screw and inserting the handle through the opening. Tighten the screw with your fingers to hold the cup in place.

Push one end of the skimmer's hose over the hole at the bottom of the holding cup. Fit the handle's hooked portion over the pool's edge, approximately 18 inches from the outlet tube -- the tube that sucks water into the filter.

Attach the hose's other end to the adapter on the side of the pool. Set the floating basket into the holding cup. Loosen the holding screw then slide the basket up and down until the floating basket floats freely within the holding cup.
