How to Get Stains Out of Pavers

Oil and Grease

  Fill a bucket with a gallon of warm water and concrete cleaner. Follow the manufacturer's directions for dilution, however, typically it's approximately 1/4 to 1/2 cup of cleaner per gallon of water.

  Dip a deck mop in the soapy water. Mop over the paver and remove as much grease and oil as possible.

  Cover the oil or grease spill with cat litter or talc. Let it sit and absorb the oil for 24 hours.

  Sweep up the cat litter or talc with a broom. Repeat the process until the stain is removed.

Blood, Food and Juice Stains

  Pour a small amount of a liquid dish soap, hand soap or laundry detergent onto a small bowl or paper plate.

  Dip a soft-bristled cleaning brush, such as an old toothbrush, into the soap. Rub directly onto any spots or stains on the paver. Do not dilute the soap.

  Allow the soap to work into the paver for 30 to 60 minutes.

  Fill a bucket with water as hot as you can stand to touch. Dip a medium-bristled cleaning brush into the warm water. Scrub the paver to remove all soap residue. Repeat the process as needed until the stain has lifted.

Leaf, Wood and Tobacco Stains

  Dilute 1/2 cup of bleach with 2 1/2 cups of warm water.

  Place protective gloves over your hands. Dip a medium- to hard-bristled scrubbing brush into the bleach mixture.

  Rub into the stains. Allow the bleach to work into any stains for 15 minutes.

  Use a hose to rinse the bleach from the pavers. Repeat the process until all of the stains are removed.
