Specifications of a Belgard Aqua Brick Paver

The Belgard Aqua Brick Paver is a permeable concrete interlocking stone from Belgard Hardscapes, a division of Oldcastle Architectural Product Group of Atlanta, Ga. Properly installed permeable interlocking paving stones meet Environmental Protection Agency guidelines for storm water runoff without additional drainage. Aqua Brick is approved Permeable Interlocking Concrete Pavement, or PICP, by the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute (ICPI).
  1. Size

    • The Belgard Aqua Brick Paver is a 5-by10-inch rectangle, 3 1/8 inches thick. Installed, there are 2.97 Aqua Brick stones per square foot. They are heavy-duty enough to be suitable for vehicular traffic and come with a 50-year guarantee.

    Shape

    • Interlocking elements are shallow, with minimal notches and grooves. The bricks are not intended to interlock seamlessly. Correct installation of a permeable surface requires seams for water drainage. The top of Belgard Aqua bricks are sufficiently level to qualify as suitable under the architectural guidelines set out in the Americans with Disabilities Act.

    Bed

    • The bed for Belgard Aqua Brick Pavers should be about 1 foot deep. Once the earth has been removed, tamp the bed thoroughly prior to installing the base rock. The base consists of 2 inches of crushed stone over 3 to 4 inches of No. 4 stone over 3 to 4 inches of No. 2 stone. Never install base rock on a moist bed. For proper drainage, the bed must be open to the soil on the sides.

    Colors

    • Belgard offers the Aqua Brick and all of its pavers in 24 colors. These colors range from grey to brown to red to cream. It should be noted that paving stones vary in coloring by the batch.

    PICP Systems

    • Permeable Interlocking Concrete Pavement technology is researched and developed at North Carolina State University in conjunction with the Low Impact Development Center and the ICPI. The benefits of PICP installations include reducing storm water volume, filtering run off water, eliminating standing water and assisting in ground water restoration.
