How To: Shower Trap on Cement Slab

## How to Shower Trap on Cement Slab

Shower traps are an important part of any shower system, as they prevent water from leaking out and causing damage to the surrounding structure. When installing a shower trap on a cement slab, there are a few things you will need to do to ensure a proper seal.

Materials Needed:

* Shower trap

* Cement board

* Thin-set mortar

* Grout

* Caulk

* Tape measure

* Level

* Utility knife

* Trowel

* Grout float

* Caulk gun

Step 1: Prepare the Cement Slab

The first step is to prepare the cement slab by making sure it is clean, level, and free of any debris. If the slab is not level, you will need to level it using a self-leveling compound.

Step 2: Install the Cement Board

Next, you will need to install the cement board. Cut the cement board to size and then apply a thin-set mortar to the back of the board. Press the cement board into place on the cement slab, making sure that it is level.

Step 3: Install the Shower Trap

Once the cement board is installed, you can install the shower trap. Place the shower trap in the desired location and then mark the outline of the trap on the cement board. Use a utility knife to cut out the opening for the shower trap.

Step 4: Apply Thin-Set Mortar

Apply a thin-set mortar to the bottom of the shower trap and then set the trap in place. Make sure that the trap is level and that it is properly seated in the opening.

Step 5: Grout the Shower Trap

Once the shower trap is installed, you will need to grout the joints between the trap and the cement board. Use a grout float to apply the grout and then wipe away any excess grout with a damp sponge.

Step 6: Caulk the Shower Trap

Finally, you will need to caulk around the shower trap to prevent water from leaking out. Use a caulk gun to apply the caulk and then smooth it out with your finger.

Step 7: Let the Mortar and Grout Dry

Allow the mortar and grout to dry completely before using the shower. The drying time will vary depending on the type of mortar and grout that you used.

By following these steps, you can properly install a shower trap on a cement slab. This will help to prevent water from leaking out and causing damage to the surrounding structure.
