Take your liner and unfold it completely. Lay it out in the sun to get warmed up. The warmer the liner the easier it is to work with.
Build a sand cove around the bottom edge of the pool. Cover the entire area of ground your pool will be sitting on in a two-inch layer of semi-fine sand. This makes it softer to walk on, and helps keeps rocks and grass from hurting your liner.
Lay a 6-inch tall wedge of sand completely around the bottom wall of your pool. Use a heavier grain sand, and form a wedge of sand at a 45-degree angle to the bottom. When finished, use a tamper tool or your foot to tamp down the sand.
Pull the liner into the pool with the help of one or two assistants. Go over the top of the pool and try to get it as centered as possible. Lay the liner down so it falls in the pool, then drape the excess liner over the side of the pool. Do not let go of the edges and do not pull the liner tightly. Pull until the liner touches the ground and all sides of the pool.
Place the trim on top of your liner around the edge to hold the liner in place. Make sure the liner fits loosely at this stage, with a 2-inch overhang around the sides.
Place the water hose inside pool and start to fill the pool. Work out all creases and wrinkles as the pool fills. Don't fill too quickly, or it will be harder to work out the wrinkles. Once the pool is filled up about 6 inches, the liner is difficult to move.
Fill the pool completely after working out the wrinkles. Get the filter in place before the water level gets to the filter holes. See the instructions for your specific pool for proper filter placement.
