Simple Edging With Stone Pavers for Flower Beds

Create basic edging designs around your flower beds to section them from the rest of your yard, and to designate them as a no-go area for children and pets. Stone pavers often are used for such projects and are made from a variety of natural stone materials, including bluestone and cobblestone. Pavers come in brick-like shapes as well as flat slabs and, therefore, allow you to pick and choose according to your edging ideas.
  1. Gray Cobblestone Paver Ideas

    • Gray cobblestone pavers can be used to section flower beds. Use pavers of varying sizes or one size only. The gray color blends nicely as pavers for water or shaded flower gardens, though they can be used for any type of flower garden. Create an "undone" effect for wildflower beds or those that have been left "natural" and wild" by spacing different-sized pavers about 1/2 foot from each other. Place same-size pavers next to each other for more uniform edging around a flower bed.

    Bluestone Paver Ideas

    • Bluestone pavers generally are flat pieces of natural stone commonly used for walkways, although they also can be used in step construction. Create paths in between flower beds with bluestone pavers as an edging technique or go a more unconventional route by burying about 1/3 of bluestone pavers vertically to create a small "stone fence" for your flower beds. Bluestone pavers can be staggered around a flower bed, and painted in various colors and designs as another more unusual edging arrangement.

    Travertine Paver Ideas

    • Travertine is a type of porous, light-colored calcite used frequently in construction, including as material for patio designs. Rectangular versions of travertine can be used to create rectangular flower beds throughout your front, side and backyards. These light-colored pavers can create contrast with flower beds that contain dark-colored flowers or can compliment light-colored flowers. Place the pavers next to each other or stagger them according to preference.

    Red Cobblestone Paver Ideas

    • Red cobblestone pavers may be used to create a red brick edging effect around flower beds, or try using red and other color cobblestone pavers to create designs around flower beds, such as star, flower or butterfly patterns. Create a tulip shape around a bed of tulips or a butterfly shape around plants used for a butterfly garden. Red cobblestone also can be used to create a red brick pathway in between flower beds as an edging technique.
