Place 4 10-foot 4-by-4-inch posts on a flat working surface. Find a location on the side that is 3 inches from the top of each post. Mark the location, and then drill a hole halfway through each post. Screw a large eye hook into each hole.
Drill a 1-inch deep hole in the center of the top of each post. Screw a screw-in post cap in each hole. The caps will make the posts appear more finished.
Dig a 2-foot-deep hole in each corner of the patio using a post hole digger or an auger. Place a small amount of gravel into the bottom of each hole to help with drainage.
Place each of the posts with the caps on top upright in the post holes. Turn each of them so that their eye hooks face the center of the patio. Nail scrap lumber on an angle to the posts from the ground to hold them in place. Check that each post is perfectly straight using a sprint level.
Mix a batch of quick-drying concrete following the package instructions. Pour the concrete around one of the posts. Repeat on the remaining four posts. Allow the concrete to set for several days before removing the scrap lumber supports.
Paint each post in your desired color, and paint the top caps the same color. Let the paint dry for one day.
Cut a small hole in each corner of the fabric awning approximately 3 inches from all sides. Use a grommet tool to pound a heavy-duty grommet into each hole.
Hook each corner of the awning to the eye hooks on the posts using heavy-duty carabiners.
