How to Clean Nail Polish Off a Comforter

Performing a manicure or pedicure during a slumber party might seem like a fun idea, yet the fun stops when the nail polish gets onto the comforter. It may be impossible to remove the nail polish, and the process can damage some fabrics. Before tackling the cleaning project, read the comforter tag to determine the fabric type or any recommended cleaning instructions. Comforter fabrics vary as do washing instructions.

Instructions

    • 1

Moisten a cotton swab with nail polish remover.

    • 2

Dab the nail polish with the moist cotton tip. Avoid touching the fabric around the polish with the wet cotton swab.

    • 3

Blot the stain with a paper towel to lift the nail polish from the fabric onto the paper towel. Repeat to remove as much nail polish as possible, using a clean swab moistened with polish remover and a fresh paper towel.

    • 4

Add 1 teaspoon mild liquid laundry detergent to 1 cup of lukewarm water. Don’t use a detergent containing bleach or alkalies.

    • 5

Sponge the area with the detergent solution after removing the nail polish.

    • 6

Sponge the area with cool water to rinse. Blot dry. Always use a white rag, as dye from a colored rag might affix to the comforter.
