How to Remove Tar Paper From Wood Floors

Step 1: Prepare the work area.

- Clear the floor of all furniture and belongings.

- Cover the floor around the work area with drop cloths.

- Put on gloves and safety glasses.

Step 2: Score the tar paper.

- Use a utility knife to score the tar paper in a grid pattern.

- This will help to make it easier to remove.

Step 3: Heat the tar paper.

- Use a heat gun or hair dryer to heat the tar paper.

- This will soften the adhesive and make it easier to remove.

Step 4: Scrape off the tar paper.

- Use a putty knife or paint scraper to scrape off the tar paper.

- Start at one corner and work your way across the floor.

- Be careful not to damage the wood flooring beneath.

Step 5: Clean the floor.

- Use a damp cloth to clean the floor.

- Remove any remaining adhesive or tar.

- Allow the floor to dry completely.

Step 6: Restore the wood floor.

- If necessary, sand the floor to remove any remaining adhesive or tar.

- Apply a coat of stain or finish to the floor.

Tips:

- If the tar paper is particularly stubborn, you may need to use a chemical stripper.

- Be careful not to use too much stripper, as this can damage the wood floor.

- Always test the stripper on a small area of the floor before using it on the entire surface.
