1. Prepare the work area. Lay down drop cloths to protect the floor and surrounding surfaces. Open windows and doors for ventilation or create airflow using a fan.
2. Remove any loose paint. Use a paint scraper to remove any loose or peeling latex paint. Be careful not to damage the underlying enamel paint.
3. Apply a chemical stripper. Apply a chemical stripper to the latex paint using a paintbrush. Be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for the stripper and use appropriate protective gear such as gloves and eye protection.
4. Let the stripper sit. Allow the stripper to sit on the latex paint for the amount of time specified on the manufacturer's instructions.
5. Scrape off the softened paint. Use a putty knife or paint scraper to scrape off the softened latex paint.
6. Rinse the surface. Rinse the surface thoroughly with water to remove any remaining stripper or paint residue.
7. Repeat if necessary. If there are still any areas of latex paint, repeat steps 3-6.
8. Repaint the surface. Once the latex paint has been completely removed, you may repaint the surface with your desired color.
