How to Remove Stage 3 Creosote

Step 1: Inspect the Chimney

Before attempting to remove the creosote, inspect the chimney for any cracks, damage, or obstructions. If you find any damage, you should have it repaired before proceeding.

Step 2: Prepare the Area

Cover the floor around the fireplace and chimney with a drop cloth to protect it from soot and debris. You should also wear protective clothing, including gloves, safety glasses, and a dust mask.

Step 3: Remove the Creosote Manually

Rinse the chimney thoroughly with water to remove the cleaner and any remaining creosote. You can use a garden hose or a pressure washer. Be sure to rinse the chimney until the water runs clear.

Step 6: Dry the Chimney

Allow the chimney to dry completely before using your fireplace again. You can use a fan or open the windows to help speed up the drying process.

Step 7: Reinspect the Chimney

Once the chimney is dry, inspect it again to make sure that all of the creosote has been removed. If you find any areas that still have creosote, repeat the cleaning process.

Step 8: Prevent Future Creosote Buildup

To prevent future creosote buildup, burn only seasoned firewood, and have your chimney cleaned and inspected regularly by a professional.
