How to Clean the Hotplate on a Humidifier

Humidifiers effectively increase the air moisture level during dry seasons. Some humidifiers also come with a heating element and conveniently warm the room while raising humidity. Because of the constant exposure to moisture, a humidifier requires regular cleaning, especially if you have hard water. When your humidifier's moisture production slows down or stops altogether, it's time to clean the hotplate or heating element. You can clean the heating element of your humidifier with household supplies to return it to peak performance.

Instructions

Unplug the humidifier and allow it to cool completely. Follow the manufacturer's directions to remove the hotplate or heating element from the humidifier.

Wipe the hotplate with a dry cloth to remove dust and loose dirt.

    • 3
An old toothbrush cleans hard-to-reach places.

Fill a small bowl with undiluted white vinegar. Dip an old toothbrush in the vinegar. Scrub the surface of the hotplate to loosen and remove hard water stains and mineral deposits.

Sprinkle baking soda onto the toothbrush to scrub stubborn stains. Rinse the hotplate by wiping it off with a damp cloth.

Dry the hotplate with another cloth. Lay the hotplate on a dry cloth and allow it to air-dry before placing it back inside the humidifier.
