Can You Use Mr. Clean on Pergo Floors?

Pergo is a manufacturer of laminate flooring, which has the sleek, wood-grain appearance of a natural hardwood floor but with much greater durability. Cleaning a Pergo floor can prove tricky, though, because if you use the wrong cleaner, you may permanently stain or damage the floor surface. For certain cleaning applications, you may benefit from using the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.
  1. Mr. Clean Products

    • Never use Mr. Clean liquid cleansers on your Pergo floor. Soaps and detergents can cause unsightly film to form on laminate floors. For spot treating, you can use the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, which has been recommended by consumer testimonials on the official Mr. Clean website. The Magic Eraser contains a melamine foam, which works like a very fine sandpaper without harsh chemicals. Since the foam is porous and non-abrasive, it will not scratch your Pergo floor even as it removes dirt.

    Using Magic Eraser

    • You should not use the Magic Eraser to clean your entire Pergo floor, but if you have areas of set-in dirt, stains or scuff marks, the Magic Eraser should safely remove them when other laminate-friendly cleaning products fail. Dampen an unused Magic Eraser with a few drops of water and scrub the stains using rapid motions. Dry the floor immediately after removing the stain, in order to prevent water spots from emerging on the laminate surface. .

    For Routine Cleaning

    • When you wish to go beyond spot treatment and give the entire floor a good cleaning, use a chemical-free approach. Use a broom or vacuum cleaner to remove dust accumulation, and then use a damp mop to clean the surface dirt. Pergo floors are treated with LusterGuard surface protection, which prevents dirt from penetrating too deeply. You can also mix a gallon of water with a cup of vinegar or 1/2 cup of ammonia and then damp mop.

    Additional Information

    • If the Magic Eraser proves insufficient, Mr. Clean also markets a product called Magic Eraser Extra Power, specifically designated for the more stubborn stains that you encounter. If routine cleaning and the Magic Eraser fail to remove stains effectively, try using Pergo's Laminate and Hard Surface Cleaner. Never attempt to scrub a Pergo floor with a harsh scouring pad.

    Warning About Mr. Clean Products

    • If you have an active warranty for your Pergo floor, stick to Pergo's official cleaning products and recommendations. Using any Mr. Clean product, or any commercial cleaning product not recommended by Pergo, may void your warranty. Pergo's Laminate and Hard Surface Cleaner can safely clean your floor without voiding your warranty, as can the aforementioned water and vinegar or ammonia approach.
