Uses for Cloth Drying Racks

Frugal people and those who desire a greener lifestyle have embraced the clothes dryer rack as a portable alternative to electric or gas dryers. This folding wooden object is light, collapsible and holds a surprising amount of clothing to dry. This basic design is versatile enough that it can be used in many other ways, in virtually every room of the house. Consider this an all-purpose item for holding things, not just a clothes dryer for inside your home.
  1. Pasta Rack

    • If you make homemade fettuccine or other long, stringy pastas, you need to hang it up before you cook or store it. Pasta drying racks sit on the counter handy to your pasta roller, but most of them only work for small amounts of shorter noodles. Hang your large batches of longer noodles on the bars of a clothes drying rack. You'll have room for the largest batch of pasta, with room between each noodle for quick and efficient drying.

    Kids Craft Supplies

    • Turn an unused corner into a craft area in your kids' room. Buy or make a clothespin bag and hang it on one of the top racks of your clothes dryer. Fill the bag with crayons and pencils. Hang a collection of coloring books and pads of paper over the remaining bars, with a bar running along the spine of each book.

    Coordinate Kids Wardrobes

    • Fold and hang one entire outfit for your child on each bar of a clothes hanging rack. Your child will have shirt, pants, underwear and socks for each day with no worries about color coordination or finding matching outfits. This organizer helps children get dressed more efficiently in the morning, and frees up dresser drawer space for other clothing items.

    Party Table

    • Turn a clothes drying rack into an additional level surface for your next party or get-together. Lay a piece of plywood over the opened rack. Cover the plywood with a long tablecloth or a large piece of attractive fabric themed to the occasion. Set appetizers, additional plastic glassware or a dessert buffet on the new serving table. Keep heavier items off this table, as it won't take large amounts of stress or weight.
