How to Care For and Maintain Corian Countertops

Corian is a solid surface countertop made by DuPont. Corian is nonporous, stain resistant, scratch resistant and never needs to be sealed. You can work with Corian in the same way you work with a fine wood, as it can be drilled, routed or sculpted. The countertop will never need sealing and is even a certified kosher product.

Instructions

    • 1

Wipe the surface using soapy water or a mild, ammonia-based household cleaner to remove dirt or residue.

    • 2

Disinfect the countertop using a mixture of 1 part water and 1 part bleach. Use a rag with water to rinse the countertop.

    • 3

Wipe completely dry to prevent hard water stains. If the countertop has accumulated hard water stains over time, you can remove them by using a hard water stain remover such as CLR or Lime-A-Way.

    • 4

Use a cutting board or mat. Never cut directly on a Corian countertop. If the countertop does have a minor scratch, it can be removed. The area must be washed and dried and gently sanded using a special finishing pad. You can also arrange for your countertop to be professionally refinished by contacting a Corian retailer.

Use a hot pad or trivet when placing hot cookware on the countertop. While it is heat resistant, you should minimize direct heat exposure. This will protect your investment and extend the life and beauty of your countertop.
