How to Calculate House Area

To calculate the area of a house, follow these steps:

(For simplicity and better understanding, we will assume a rectangular-shaped house.)

1. Outline the House:

- Identify the outer perimeter walls and make a rough sketch of your house.

2. Measure Length and Width:

- Measure the length (the longest dimension) and the width (the shortest dimension) of your house.

Measure from the wall's exterior surfaces.

3. Multiply Length by Width:

- Multiply the measured length and width to calculate the area of the rectangular shape.

Area = Length x Width

_Example: If your house measures 40 feet in length and 25 feet in width, the area of the rectangular base is: 40 feet x 25 feet = 1000 square feet._

4. Consider Multiple Levels (if applicable):

- If your house has multiple levels (e.g., a basement, main level, and upstairs), you need to calculate the area of each level separately and add them together to get the total house area.

5. Calculate Total Area (Optional):

- Once you have calculated the area of each level, add them together to determine the total square footage of your entire house.

_Example: If your basement is 800 sqft, the main level is 1200 sqft, and the upstairs level is 1000 sqft, the total house area is: 800 + 1200 + 1000 = 3000 square feet._

6. Round Up:

- Round your final house area to the nearest whole number. Typically, property areas are measured in square feet (sq ft), and fractions are not usually included.

Remember that this calculation gives you the gross area of your house, which includes the area taken up by walls, closets, stairs, etc. If you need the net area (the total usable or livable space), you'll need to deduct these areas from the gross area.
