How to Clean a Stain on a Microfiber Couch

Created in the 1950s, microfiber is a fine synthetic fiber that is a popular choice for couch upholstery. Microfiber can be styled to look like suede without the expensive price tag and -- unlike suede -- microfiber is stain-resistant. Even though microfiber can resist some stains, there are still items that can leave spots and discolorations on your couch. To prevent permanent stains on your microfiber couch, remove them as soon as possible. The longer the stain sits on your couch, the harder it will be to remove.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a bucket with 1 gallon of cool water. Add two to three drops of liquid dish soap into the water and mix with a spoon.

    • 2

Saturate a sponge in the mixture. Wring out the excess liquid from the sponge while holding it over the bucket.

    • 3

Scrub the stain with the sponge in a back-and-forth motion. Saturate the sponge into the mixture when it becomes soiled.

    • 4

Continue scrubbing the microfiber couch until the stain is no longer visible.

    • 5

Dampen a clean cloth with cool water. Blot the area of the couch with the cloth to remove the mixture residue. Pat the couch dry with a towel.
