How to Cover Outdoor Cushions

Outdoor cushions on your patio or backyard furniture are constantly exposed to the elements and require covering during snow or rainfall to maintain the condition of the fabric. Exposure to moisture results in mildew accumulation, which is difficult to remove from the cushion after repeated exposure and little to no protection. According to Good Housekeeping, moisture prevention is key to reducing eventual wear and tear, and requires checking the weather daily to determine the best method of care.

Many of the furniture covers are made of Tyvek, which allows the furniture to breathe while covered and also provides ultraviolet, rain and dust protection.

Bring in outdoor furniture during the winter season, as the cushions as well as the wood or metal furniture is susceptible to degradation from the snow and ice.
