How to Remove Burnt Coffee From a Decanter

Waking up to a pot of freshly brewed coffee is a quick way to start your day. But when you find your coffee is burnt inside the decanter, it can turn your perfect tasting coffee to something disgusting. Coffee may burn inside the decanter if it's been sitting on the coffee pot for too long and gets too hot. Additionally, not cleaning the decanter periodically leads to buildup inside it, which in turn can cause burnt coffee. Remove it from the decanter sooner rather than later so the problem does not get worse.

Instructions

    • 1

Empty the contents of the decanter. Rinse it out well with warm water.

    • 2

Fill the decanter with white vinegar. If the decanter is stainless steel, use equal parts white vinegar and water.

    • 3

Let the vinegar sit in the decanter overnight for glass pots, or 20 minutes for stainless steel pots. Dump out the vinegar mixture from the decanter.

    • 4

Fill the kitchen sink with hot, soapy water. Scrub the inside of the decanter with a soft cloth and the hot, soapy water.

    • 5

Sprinkle some baking soda onto a sponge if the burn spots remain. Scrub your glass or stainless steel decanter gently with the sponge and baking soda until the burnt coffee is gone. Wash the decanter again in hot, soapy water.
