How to Clean Le Creuset Enameled Cast Iron

Cleaning your Le Creuset enameled cast iron cookware is relatively easy with a few basic steps:

1. Allow cookware to cool completely:

Ensure that the cookware has cooled down to room temperature before attempting to clean it. Avoid pouring cold water into a hot pan, as the sudden temperature change could damage the enamel.

2. Remove food residue:

Use a wooden spatula or a plastic scraper to remove any loose food particles or residues from the cookware's surface. Be careful not to use metal utensils that might scratch the enamel.

3. Wash with warm soapy water:

Fill the cookware with warm water and add a mild dishwashing detergent. Use a soft sponge or cloth to gently wash the inside and outside surfaces of the cookware. Avoid using abrasive scrubbers or harsh detergents that could damage the enamel.

4. Rinse thoroughly:

Rinse the cookware thoroughly with warm water to remove all soap residue.

5. Dry immediately:

Use a clean, soft dishcloth or towel to dry the cookware thoroughly. Leaving it wet can cause rust to form on the enamel.

6. For stubborn stains or burnt-on food:

If there are persistent stains or burnt-on food, you can try soaking the cookware in a mixture of equal parts water and white vinegar for several hours or overnight. Then, use a soft sponge to scrub the stains away. Avoid using metal scouring pads or harsh abrasive cleaners.

7. Remove metal marks:

If there are any metal marks on the cookware's surface, you can try removing them by gently rubbing with a paste made from baking soda and water. After a few minutes, rinse the cookware thoroughly with warm water.

8. Apply a protective layer (optional):

After drying, you can apply a thin layer of vegetable oil to the enamel surface to protect it from rust and make it easier to clean in the future.
