How to Get Smoke Out of Suede

1. Ventilate the Area. Open windows and doors to let the smoke out. If possible, move the suede item to an area with good air circulation.

2. Brush Off Surface Soot. Use a soft-bristled brush to remove any soot or ash that has settled on the surface of the suede. Brush gently in one direction, taking care not to damage the suede.

3. Vacuum the Item. Use a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment to remove any remaining soot and ash. Vacuum the item thoroughly, moving the vacuum in different directions to ensure that you get all of the soot.

4. Apply a Baking Soda Paste. Mix baking soda with water to form a paste. Apply the paste to the smoke-stained areas of the suede, and then let it sit for several hours or overnight. The baking soda will help to absorb the smoke odor.

5. Brush Off the Baking Soda Paste. After the baking soda has had time to set, brush it off of the suede with a soft-bristled brush.

6. Clean the Item with a Suede Cleaner. Use a suede cleaner that is specifically designed for suede. Apply the cleaner to a clean cloth, and then wipe the item down with the cloth. Be sure to follow the directions on the suede cleaner bottle for best results

7. Let the Item Dry. Allow the item to dry completely before using it again.
