How to Re-Set Your Home Alarm Code

There are literally hundreds of home alarms systems available on the market today. Each major home security manufacturer has several models of alarm, all with different features but many alarms are in essence quite similar. All alarm systems provide an option to change your alarm code, since the alarm is rendered useless if someone discovers the code. In most cases you will have to enter the "master code" for your alarm system before you can make any changes.

Instructions

    • 1

Enter "Program," "Setup" or "Configuration" mode on your control panel.

    • 2

Enter your master alarm code when prompted. This can be as many as 8 digits long.

    • 3

Select the code you want to reset. Most alarms hold several codes for different family members.

    • 4

Enter a new code, usually of 4 digits or more, when prompted.

    • 5

Select a security level, if necessary. Some alarm systems allow you to assign varying access levels between alarm codes.

    • 6

Confirm and exit. Your new code should be ready to use straight away.
