Slide a stud finder along the area on the wall where you what to install the wall railing. Mark each stud with a strip of masking tape.
Mark the height of the wall railing onto each strip of masking tape at each stud. Choose a height for the top of the railing between 34 and 37 inches to comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards.
Add the thickness of the railing and the height of the wall rail mounting bracket together. Subtract this measurement from the height measurement. Mark this measurement on the masking tape beneath the original height measurement.
Measure from the floor to the new mark on the tape to confirm each mark is an equal distance from the floor.
Place the bottom of the wall railing mounting bracket against the wall at the new measurement. Mark the mounting bracket screw holes onto the wall.
Drill 1/8-inch pilot holes into the wall studs at each mounting bracket location with a 1/8-inch wood drill bit attached to a drill. Remove the masking tape from the wall.
Attach each wall railing mounting bracket to each wall stud with the screws provided with the mounting bracket. Insert a Phillips or slotted drill bit into the drill to help drive the screws into the wall.
Lay the wall railing on top of the mounting brackets. Center the wall rail so it sets an equal distance past the two outside wall brackets. For example, if the right end of the rail sits 6 inches past the far right wall railing bracket, verify the left end of the rail sits 6 inches past the far left wall railing bracket.
Mark the mounting bracket holes onto the wall railing. Remove the railing from the brackets and drill 1/8-inch pilot holes at each mounting bracket location.
Sit the railing back onto the brackets. Attach the wall railing to the wall railing brackets with the mounting screws provided with the brackets.
