Materials:
- Galvanized union fitting
- Pipe wrench
- Teflon tape
Instructions:
1. Shut off the water supply to the area where you will be installing the union fitting.
2. If you are replacing an existing fitting, remove it using the pipe wrench.
3. Wrap the threads of the union fitting with Teflon tape to ensure a tight seal.
4. Screw the union fitting onto the first pipe. Tighten the fitting with the pipe wrench until it is snug.
5. Attach the second pipe to the union fitting and tighten it with the pipe wrench.
6. Turn the water supply back on and check for leaks. If you see any leaks, tighten the union fitting until the leak stops.
Tips:
- Be careful not to over-tighten the union fitting, as this could damage the threads.
- If you are working on a plumbing project that requires you to install multiple union fittings, it is a good idea to label each fitting so you know which pipe it connects to.
- Galvanized union fittings are susceptible to corrosion, so it is important to inspect them regularly for signs of damage. If you see any corrosion, replace the fitting immediately.
