How to Cut Window Glass

Tools

* Glass cutter

* Safety glasses

* Gloves

* Pliers

* Utility knife

* Tape measure

* Pencil

Note

For thicker glass, you can use a diamond-tipped glass cutter or a wet saw.

Steps

1. Measure and mark the glass. Use the tape measure and pencil to mark the dimensions of the piece of glass you need to cut.

2. Score the glass. Hold the glass cutter perpendicular to the surface of the glass and score the cutting line by gently pressing down and running the cutter along the marked line.

3. Snap the glass. Once the glass is scored, place it on a flat surface with the scored line overhanging the edge. Gently press down on the glass with the pliers until it snaps along the score line.

4. Remove the sharp edges. Use the utility knife to remove any sharp edges from the cut glass.

5. Clean the glass. Wipe the glass with a damp cloth to remove any dust or debris.

Tips

* When scoring the glass, use firm but even pressure. If you press too hard, you can crack the glass.

* Be careful not to breathe in the glass dust. It can be harmful to your lungs.

* Wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from flying glass shards.
