How to Repair a Mansfield Flush Valve

How to Repair a Mansfield Flush Valve

A Mansfield flush valve is a common type of toilet flush valve that uses a flapper to stop the flow of water from the tank into the bowl. When the flapper is lifted, water is released into the bowl and the toilet flushes. If your Mansfield flush valve is leaking or not working properly, you can usually repair it yourself with a few simple tools.

Here are the steps on how to repair a Mansfield flush valve:

1. Turn off the water supply to the toilet. There is usually a shutoff valve located behind or underneath the toilet. Turn the valve clockwise to turn off the water.

2. Flush the toilet to remove most of the water from the tank.

3. Remove the flapper. The flapper is attached to the flush valve by a chain or a rod. Simply unhook the chain or rod and lift the flapper out of the tank.

4. Inspect the flapper. Look for any cracks or holes in the flapper. If the flapper is damaged, you will need to replace it.

5. Clean the flapper seat. The flapper seat is the surface on the flush valve that the flapper seals against. Clean the flapper seat with a sponge or a brush.

6. Apply a thin coat of petroleum jelly to the flapper seat. This will help to create a seal between the flapper and the seat.

7. Reinstall the flapper. Hook the chain or rod back onto the flush valve and place the flapper back into the tank.

8. Turn the water supply back on.

9. Test the flush valve. Flush the toilet and make sure that the leak has been repaired.

If the leak persists, you may need to replace the flush valve. Mansfield flush valves are relatively inexpensive and easy to replace. You can find replacement flush valves at most home improvement stores.
