How to Bend a Beer Cap Backwards

Bending a beer cap backwards requires skill and practice, though it is not overly complicated. Here is a step-by-step guide:

1. Materials: You will need a bottle of beer, a flat surface, and something rigid to use as a fulcrum (such as a credit card or a coin).

2. Prepare the cap: Open the bottle and remove the cap. Make sure it's clean.

3. Create the fulcrum: Place your credit card or coin on the flat surface, roughly one-third of the way down the length of the cap.

4. Position the cap: Holding the cap in one hand, place the long edge of the cap on the fulcrum. The bottle opener indentation of the cap should be facing down.

5. Grip: Hold the cap in place using your other hand, with your thumb on the center of the cap.

6. Push down: Apply firm, even pressure with both of your hands. Push the top edge of the cap upwards, using the card as a pivot. Continue until the cap begins to bend.

7. Follow through: Once the cap is about halfway bent, stop applying upward force and use the momentum to push the cap into an almost upright position. This is the hardest part, and may take some practice to perfect.

8. Release: Remove your hands when the cap is standing up straight. It should stay in that position due to the tension of the metal.

The resulting bent cap is often called a “coaster cap.”
