How to Make a Siding Jig for HardiePlank

## Materials

- (1) 2x4, 8 feet long

- (2) 1x4, 8 feet long

- 1-inch wood screws

- 1/2-inch wood screws

- Circular saw

- Drill

- Sander

Instructions

1. Cut the 2x4 into two 4-foot lengths.

2. Cut the 1x4s into two 2-foot lengths and two 3-foot lengths.

3. Assemble the jig by attaching the 2-foot 1x4s to the ends of the 4-foot 2x4s with 1-inch wood screws.

4. Attach the 3-foot 1x4s to the sides of the jig, flush with the top, with 1-inch wood screws.

5. Sand the jig to smooth out any rough edges.

Using the Siding Jig

1. Place the siding jig against the wall where you want to install the HardiePlank.

2. Mark the stud locations on the wall through the holes in the jig.

3. Remove the jig and drill pilot holes at the stud locations.

4. Insert 1/2-inch wood screws into the pilot holes and drive them into the studs.

5. Hang the HardiePlank on the screws.

Tips

- Use a level to make sure the jig is level before you mark the stud locations.

- If you are installing HardiePlank on a corner, you will need to make a special corner jig.
