Instructions

    • 1

Install an electrical circuit in your attic to power the fan. Run an electrical wire from your breaker box into the attic. Install the outlet next to the planned fan location.

    • 2

Cut the opening in your gable end with a reciprocating saw. Follow the fan manufacturer's recommendations for the size and shape of your opening.

    • 3

Attach two horizontal studs to your attic's existing vertical framing with 3-inch screws or 16-penny nails to support the top and bottom portion of the fan. These studs also will provide extra support for your louvered attic vent.

    • 4

Mount the louvered attic vent to the outside of the gable. Run a bead of caulk along the entire inside edge of the vent before attaching it, with screws, to the gable end for weatherproofing.

    • 5

Mount the gable fan to the framing studs on the inside of the attic. Follow manufacturer's recommendations for mounting method and hardware.

    • 6

Plug the fan into the new outlet.

    • 7

Attach the wires to your new circuit breaker. Install the circuit breaker in your service panel.
