Wood Stove Chimney Installation

Having a wood stove in your house can create a warm atmosphere in any room and it is also a useful means of heating the house. Nonetheless, heating your house with a wood stove is impossible without correctly installing a chimney first. The chimney channels the smoke and dangerous gases out of the wood stove into the open air. If you do not install the chimney correctly, the smoke will enter the house, which is very dangerous.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a place for the wood stove near a wall that looks out to your garden or the front lawn. Clear away any furniture and carpet from the work area.

    • 2

Bore a hole through the wall using a hammer or a rock-drill matching the width of the stovepipe and the chimney. Insert the radiation sheet inside the hole and screw it into the wall following the instructions that came with the chimney kit.

    • 3

Assemble the required length of stovepipe and chimney pieces. Attach the stovepipe to the insulated chimney piece and to the wood stove. Screw the stovepipe to the back of the wood stove following the manufacturer's instructions.

    • 4

Fasten the outside chimney pieces to the wall every 6 feet using a wall support and a screw driver. Run the chimney up along the wall above the roof. The end of the chimney must be at least 3 feet above the roof surface and it has to be at least 2 feet higher than any area of the building within 10 feet of the chimney.

    • 5

Fasten the rain cap on top of the chimney following the manufacturer's instructions.

    • 6

Leave at least 5 inches between the wall, the stovepipe inside the house and the chimney piece outside the house to avoid setting anything nearby on fire.
