- Old rag or towel
1. Prepare the Drain:
- Place the old rag or towel around the tub drain to catch any small parts that may fall during the removal process.
- Turn off the water supply to the tub to prevent water from flowing out while working.
2. Remove the Pop-Up Drain Stopper:
- Use the adjustable wrench to turn the drain stopper counterclockwise.
- Continue turning until the stopper loosens and lifts out of the drain.
- If the stopper is stuck, you may need to use the flat-head screwdriver to pry it loose.
3. Remove the Stopper Assembly:
- Locate the stopper assembly, which is the mechanism that controls the pop-up stopper.
- Use the adjustable wrench to turn the stopper assembly counterclockwise.
- Continue turning until the assembly loosens and comes out of the drain.
4. Clean the Drain:
- Once the stopper assembly is removed, take the opportunity to clean the drain.
- Remove any dirt, debris, or hair from the drain opening using a drain brush or a wire hanger.
5. Reinstall the Stopper Assembly:
- Insert the stopper assembly back into the drain.
- Use the adjustable wrench to turn the assembly clockwise until it is snug.
6. Reinstall the Pop-Up Drain Stopper:
- Place the pop-up drain stopper back into the drain.
- Use the adjustable wrench to turn the stopper clockwise until it is snug.
7. Test the Drain:
- Turn on the water supply and check for any leaks around the drain.
- If there are no leaks, the drain stopper removal and reinstallation process is complete.
