1. Gather your materials:
- Painter’s tape
- Drop cloth or plastic sheeting
- Spray paint in the color of your choice
- Rust-Oleum Tub & Tile Refinisher (optional)
2. Prepare your work area:
Place the drop cloth or plastic sheeting around the shower drain to protect the surrounding area from paint. Use painter’s tape to cover any areas that you do not want to be painted, such as the shower floor and walls.
3. Clean the shower drain:
Scrub the shower drain with a brush and a mild detergent to remove any dirt or grime. Rinse the drain thoroughly and allow it to dry completely.
4. Apply Rust-Oleum Tub & Tile Refinisher (optional):
If you are using Rust-Oleum Tub & Tile Refinisher, apply a thin coat of the product to the shower drain and allow it to dry according to the manufacturer’s instructions. This step will help the paint to adhere better to the drain.
5. Spray paint the shower drain:
Shake the can of spray paint thoroughly before use. Hold the can about 10-12 inches from the shower drain and spray in a steady stream. Apply multiple thin coats of paint, allowing each coat to dry completely before applying the next.
6. Allow the paint to dry:
Let the paint dry completely before using the shower again. This will usually take several hours, or even overnight.
7. Remove the painter’s tape and drop cloth:
Once the paint is dry, carefully remove the painter’s tape and drop cloth.
Your shower drain is now painted and ready to use!
