Most experienced do-it-yourselfers know the basics of interior painting. Unfortunately, some do not know the proper way to calculate the amount of paint needed to complete a project. This often leads to excessive purchase and needless overhead. When amateur painters underestimate their paint needs, they must usually make repeat trips to their local paint or home improvement store. Make your bedroom remodeling project an efficient one by employing the right strategy to estimate the total amount of paint you will need before you buy.

Measure the length and width of one bedroom wall. Multiply the width times the height to determine the square footage of that bedroom wall. Repeat this process until you've calculated the square footage of each bedroom wall.
-

Add each number together to determine the square footage of the entire bedroom. Divide this total by 400 to determine the number of gallons of paint needed to finish the bedroom.
