How to Remove Latex Paint From Stone

Removing Latex Paint from Stone

1. Test a small area. Before you start removing latex paint from stone, it's important to test a small area to make sure that the paint remover doesn't damage the stone. Apply a small amount of paint remover to a cotton swab and rub it on a small, inconspicuous area of the stone. If the stone doesn't show any signs of damage after a few minutes, you can proceed to remove the paint.

2. Protect the surrounding area. Before you start removing the paint, protect the surrounding area from the paint remover. Use painter's tape to cover any areas that you don't want to get paint remover on.

3. Apply the paint remover. Using a paintbrush, apply the paint remover to the latex paint. Be sure to apply the paint remover in a thick, even coat.

4. Let the paint remover sit. Allow the paint remover to sit for the amount of time specified on the product label. This will typically be anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes.

5. Scrape off the paint. After the paint remover has had a chance to sit, use a putty knife or a paint scraper to scrape off the latex paint. Start at the edges of the paint and work your way inward.

6. Rinse the stone. Once you've removed all of the latex paint, rinse the stone with water to remove any remaining paint remover.

7. Dry the stone. Use a clean cloth to dry the stone.

8. Repeat steps 3-7 if necessary. If there is still some latex paint remaining, you may need to repeat steps 3-7 until all of the paint has been removed.
