How to Paint a Marble Gas Fireplace

If you have a gas fireplace that is surrounded by marble and wish to create a new look for it, you can paint the marble using a specific technique so that it can be the color of your choice. Properly prepping the marble before painting it is important in yielding a quality finished piece. The right kind of paint and correct technique will allow you to complete this task yourself without having to pay a professional.

  • Painter's tape
  • Plastic covering
  • Heavy-grit sandpaper
  • Clean rag
  • Warm soapy water
  • Soft cloth
  • Primer
  • Latex paint
  • Paintbrush

      Use painter's tape to secure plastic covering on the floor up against the fireplace to protect the floor from paint splatter.

      Sand the entire surface of the marble with a heavy-grit sandpaper.

      Clean the sanded marble using a rag dipped in warm soapy water.

      Buff the marble dry using a soft cloth.

      Apply a layer of primer to the marble to prepare it for the paint. Allow the primer to dry completely.

      Paint the primed marble with two layers of latex paint in the color of your choice using a paintbrush. Allow the paint to dry.

      Remove the plastic covering.
