- Heavy-grit sandpaper

Use painter's tape to secure plastic covering on the floor up against the fireplace to protect the floor from paint splatter.

Sand the entire surface of the marble with a heavy-grit sandpaper.

Clean the sanded marble using a rag dipped in warm soapy water.
