Materials:
* Exterior paint in your desired color
* Primer (optional)
* Paintbrush
* Roller brush
* Drop cloths
* Painters tape
* Rags
* Water bucket
1. Prepare the surface: Begin by cleaning the bricks thoroughly with a brush to remove dirt, dust, and any other debris. If necessary, use a mild detergent and water to remove any stubborn dirt.
2. Prime the surface: (Optional) If you are using a light color paint, or if you are covering a dark color, it may be helpful to prime the bricks first for the paint to adhere better.
3. Paint the bricks: Use a paintbrush or roller brush to apply the paint to the bricks. Go in between the mortar joints and into the recesses between the bricks.
4. Allow the paint to dry: Allow the paint to dry completely according to the manufacturer's instructions.
5. Distress the paint: To give the bricks a vintage look, use a rag to rub the paint in a few areas to remove some of the paint and expose the brick underneath.
6. Seal the paint: (Optional) If desired, you can seal the paint with a clear coat to protect it from wear and tear.
* If you are painting indoors, you can use a chalk paint or a regular acrylic paint. For outdoor projects, you must use an exterior-grade paint explicitly made for bricks.
* If you are using a roller brush, you can use a paint pad designed for painting between mortar joints.
* If you are using a light-colored paint on dark bricks, you may need to apply multiple coats of paint to get the desired coverage.
* When distressing the paint, be sure to use a light touch; you don't want to remove too much paint and expose the brick underneath.
